1,100 facing axe as windscreen giant goes bust | The Sun |News|Sun City: "BRITAIN'S second largest windscreen replacement firm went bust yesterday - putting 1,100 jobs at risk.
Administrators were appointed to Auto Windscreens and staff were told to 'cease work' immediately.
They will be paid only if a buyer can be found.
The company collapsed after receiving a winding up order from HM Revenue & Customs because it owed several million pounds in tax.
Auto Windscreens runs 68 fitting centres and 550 mobile units across the country and was due to celebrate its 40th anniversary this year. The firm, based in Chesterfield, Derbys, generates £63million of sales a year. But it was mired in debt."
